India lost to Pakistan in the under 19 world cup final taking place at the R Premadasa Stadium, in Colombo on Sunday in a very low scoring encounter.
Pakistan who were the defending champion beat the India by 38 runs. After winning the toss, Pakistan chose to put India on the field and were reduced to 109 with about 8 overs to spare as Piyush Chawla spun out the Pakistani batsmen and ended with outstanding figures of 4/8.
Pakistan was in dire states when the score read 39/3 with their top three batsmen out cheaply. The only top order batsman to do comparatively well was Rameez made a careful 25.
In reply India were all out for 71 in just about 19 overs. India’s chase started on a bad note as Gaurav Dhiman was bowled by left-armer Jamshed Ahmed on the very first ball of the innings.
What was to follow was one of the biggest breakdowns of a middle order.
Cheteshwar Pujara leg before wicket without troubling the scorers,
Rohit Sharma managed four.
Mayank Tehlan also out on a duck, were all the victims of Anwar Ali’s second over.
These were the three of the five wickets that of Anwar Ali took and ended with figures of 5/35. and Akhtar Ayub finished with very impressive figures of 3/9.

The Indian batsmen were left spellbound by the ferocious movement being extracted by the Pakistani bowlers. Piyush Chawla was left stranded, as he saw wickets tumble at the other end. He was India’s highest scorer with an unbeaten 25.
Pakistan thus became the only team ever to win back to back in the under 19 world cup. Pakistan had earlier defeated Australia in the Super-League semi-final on Friday.
Ali with his superb performance walked away with the man of the match.
The man of the series award was Pujara of India who had made 349 runs at a stunning average of 116.
