Nahan (Himachal Pradesh) -- Himachal Pradesh will encourage opening universities affiliated to international universities in the private sector.
The state government will also open a polytechnic college in Sirmour district in the near future, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said here Thursday.
Singh was addressing a mammoth public gathering on the inaugural day of a three-day Renuka Fair at Renuka Jee in Sirmour district.
He said his government was poised to make the state a leader in internationally recognized educational system and had adopted a policy to encourage private participation to achieve this objective.
He said the government would welcome introducing new courses with global and self-employment prospects.
He said institutions in medical, IT, BT and engineering sectors and other vocational disciplines should be opened by private players so that they can get affiliated to the best universities in the world.
But he said the government would not allow "teaching shops" in the name of quality education.
