On behalf of Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, the parliamentary secretary Ed Komarncki said that the government will fund to help the immigrant-serving organizations deliver settlement services to the new immigrants in Saskatoon.
That funding that is more than $2.2 million is aimed to provide for the necessary programs such as language training for almost 2000 new immigrants. The funding will also be used to help the newcomers get referrals to community resources for assistance into settling into the new communities and finding suitable jobs.
Komarnicki said that the government is fully committed to make sure that the newcomers properly integrate into their communities and find employment as soon as possible. He said that the government is giving opportunities to the newcomers to succeed by offering them valuable settlement programs including language training. He added that Canada will succeed only if the immigrants succeed.
It should be noted that the Saskatoon Open Door Society will get $1,276,641 million to develop a range of settlement services for the new immigrants in Saskatoon.
Bertha Gana, the Executive Director of the Saskatoon Open door Society said that the number of newcomers in Saskatoon is increasing very fast and there is s demand for settlement and integration services. He said that the new funding will enable them to meet the increasing demand for language training, ongoing settlement and integration support for youth and family, host programming and support services programs that will help in retaining and integrating the newcomers in Saskatoon.
The funding will also be delivered to three other organizations who are serving immigrants. $76,279 will be funded to the Global Gathering Place, $754,075 and $121,029 will be funded to Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology and Saskatchewan Intercultural Association respectively.
The newcomers can also seek help from the Foreign Credentials Referral Office (FCRO). The FCRO helps internationally trained workers to find the required information that would enable them to get their credentials assessed and recognized more quickly. The FCRO was established in the year 2007 and it provides information, guidance and referral services in order to help trained foreign workers find jobs in Canada.
There are a number of programs that are funded by the Canadian Government that are aimed at helping the newcomers to settle, adapt and integrate into the Canadian society. These programs are implemented with the government’s partnership with provinces, territories and service-providing organizations.
