Google unleashes Web Page Creator
Adding another feather to it’s cap, search giant Google launched a new product on 23 February, 2006- Google Page Creator, a free, easy, browser-based tool for creating attractive web pages. Google maintains that Google Page Creator has been designed with ease-of-use in mind. It's a very, very simple Web-site designer that works in your browser. The Page Creator has an interface that feels like a desktop application & offers a bunch of themes and a few different page layouts. Accentuated with a simple one-step publishing process, users can create attractive, functional web pages in minutes without any knowledge of HTML or other computer programming languages hosted by Google for free.
Page Creator puts your site at a yournamehere.googlepages.com URL, offers a maximum of 100MB of space, and only creates simple, static pages without flashy features, interactivity, or structure. Also, it’s a web-based tool. So no download is necessary. Users need only visit http//pages.google.com, and sign in using their Gmail account to begin creating and publishing their own web pages. Google, based in Mountain View, Calif., already offers a free, do-it-yourself Web publishing feature, Google Blogger, but it caters to those with more sophisticated Internet skills. Page Creator is for users whose Web knowledge is more rudimentary. However, Google is dealing with a capacity problem that forced it to temporarily stop letting people sign up for Page Creator on Feb. 23, the same day the service began. Reason being high demand which forced it to swamp the very first day. ``We decided in advance to limit the number of page sign-ups in order to provide users with an optimal publishing experience,'' spokeswoman Megan Quinn said in a statement. ``Due to extraordinary demand, we recently reached the limit so we have temporarily paused additional sign-ups. ''New sign-ups would be offered ``very soon,'' Quinn said. Both Google and Yahoo have been expanding beyond Internet search to develop services and technology that let Internet users create and share their own content online. With the launching of Page Creator, Google has continued its effort to spark more user-generated flourishing with video-sharing services like YouTube and networking sites like MySpace.
