Girl student stabbed in Chandigarh

Chandigarh -- A student of an airhostess training centre here, was Wednesday stabbed by a young man who the police said seemed to be stalking her.

The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital in a serious condition after being stabbed with a crude weapon.

Eyewitnesses said the assailant first hurled stones and bricks at a group of three girls, all from the same airhostess academy, who were walking along the busy Dakshin Marg in the city.

The victim was injured by one of the bricks and the assailant came and stabbed her.

Seeing this from his house, a resident of Sector 21, chased the assailant and nabbed him with the help of other people.

The assailant was thoroughly thrashed by the public before being handed over to the police.

Officials investigating the incident said the stabbing seemed to be the work of a distraught lover.
