Giggs vision seals United win

A quickly-taken free kick from Ryan Giggs gave Manchester United a 1-0 win away to French side Lille in the Champions League while a late goal for Mark van Bommel kept Bayern Munich's hopes alive against Real Madrid.

Giggs scored what could turn out to be a crucial away goal seven minutes from time, curling the ball from outside the area into the bottom-left corner as Lille were still forming their defensive wall.

Despite heavy protests from the Lille players the goal stood. In other action, a late goal from Mark van Bommel saw Bayern Munich come away from the Bernabeu stadium trailing 3-2 to Real Madrid.

Bayern defender Lucio equalized Raul's opener for Real before struck again to restore the Spanish side's lead. Ruud van Nistelrooy looked to have given Real a two-goal cushion going into the second leg in Germany before van Bommel popped up to make it 3-2 with two minutes of regulation time remaining.

Arsenal will have to overturn a one-goal deficit at the Emirates Stadium after losing 1-0 at PSV Eindhoven, Edison Mendez netting the only goal of the game on 61 minutes.

In the night's other match, AC Milan played out a scoreless draw at Glasgow Celtic.
