New York -- Oscar winning director Mel Gibson is hopeful that fans won't stay away from his movie "Apocalypto" in spite of the controversy surrounding his drunk driving arrest.
But critics say the movie, which focuses on the decline of the early Mayan race, will not fare well because fans are still not over his anti Semitic comments, reports imdb.com.
Gibson had apologised for his remarks and feels he has done enough to get people to see the film.
He says: "People aren't like that. My new film is primarily entertainment. The movie will stand on its own, regardless of any unfortunate experience I may have stumbled upon."
