Police in Orissa has registered a complaint against the grandson of a former Supreme Court chief justice for allegedly torturing his wife for dowry.
The women's police station here registered the case Tuesday against Anand Mishra following written complaint by the mother of the tortured woman, Bilasini Nayak, in charge of the police station told IANS.
Mishra is the grandson of former Supreme Court chief justice Ranganath Mishra. He is a Supreme Court lawyer and lives at New Delhi. He was married to Aarti Kar, a resident of the state capital on Dec 14, 2004.
However, Mishra and Kar started living separately since November 2005.
"My daughter was physically and mentally tortured by her husband at justice Mishra's residence where they were living," Bijoylaxmi, Aarti's mother alleged at the police station.
"Anand used to beat Aarti for dowry in front of his father and servants, although we had given Rs.350,000 to her husband to buy a car," she complained.
A member of Mishra's family however refutes the charges.
