Shimla -- A man wanted for three murders in Himachal Pradesh has been nabbed in neighbouring Punjab's Bhatinda town more than a month after he escaped from police custody.
Amrish Rana, 32, was arrested from a house in Bhatinda Thursday evening.
"Rana was arrested from a house in Bhatinda by a joint operation of the Himachal and Punjab police," said Atul Fulzele, Una police chief.
"The entire operation was based on cell phone records of the convict," Fulzele said.
Besides murder in Himachal Pradesh, he is also wanted by police in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh in connection with 22 criminal cases.
A handcuffed Rana had escaped dramatically from police custody Sep 6 in Una, 220 km from here. He eluded eight policeman and fled from a toilet window into a waiting car. Later, he was on the run in Chandigarh and Punjab.
Earlier this year, Rana had allegedly beaten a prisoner to death in a Dharamsala jail.
