New Delhi -- The organisers of the concert of Sufi singer Hans Raj Hans have been fined Rs.12.6 million for stealing power, a power distribution company said Saturday.
"Organisers of the live concert, held last week, have been booked for stealing 315 KW electricity. A first information report has been lodged," a top BSES official said.
The live concert of the famous singer was organised at a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Park in New Kondli. The official said the enforcement team of BSES raided the concert and discovered the extent of theft.
"The jam packed DDA Park had astounding lighting arrangements. Powering the massive arrangements was 315 KW of stolen electricity. The New Kondli Trade Association head, Kanhaiyya Pradhan, was subsequently booked for power theft and a penalty of Rs.12.6 million slapped on him," the official said.
"The enforcement team has documented all the evidence against the organisers. They should either pay the penalties or be ready to stand trial," he added.
Power authorities said they have urged organisers of such events - including Durga Puja and Diwali Melas - to apply for temporary connections.
"Nearly 156 Diwali Mela and Durja Puja organisers have applied and got temporary electricity connections. We urge organisers not to steal electricity during the auspicious festival season," the official added.
