The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced on Saturday that a Chinese national was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport for using a fake passport of Canada.
Marcelino Libanan, chief of the bureau, said that Zhang Xing, a Chinese national, was arrested last September 18 at the airport’s departure area after he was off-loaded from his flight bound for Vancouver.
Libanan said that the Chinese imposter was holding a Canadian passport, which was later found out to be a fake. The passport was originally issued to an eight-year-old Canadian boy named Magnus Man Hei Lam.
Libanan said that although the Chinese national admitted that he was using a fake Canadian passport; he refused to reveal to authorities how he got hold of the passport.
Immigration investigators said that Zhang had arrived from Hong Kong as a transfer passenger a few hours before he was arrested.
Libanan said that the Chinese national has been brought to the Bicutan Immigration Jail and he will stay there only until his deportation papers are being processed.
The BI chief said that Zhang’s trip might have been assisted by a human trafficking syndicate based in China that makes use of Manila as a jump-off point in order to smuggle illegal Chinese national to Canada.
