A migrant support group has claimed that the government has taken money from immigrants, utilized their skills and then is asking them to get lost.
Spokesperson for the Move 2 New Zealand Trust, Mike Bell, said that the contributions of migrants are not just limited to their skills and experience, but they also account for $8 billion to the economy annually.
He said that a large number of immigrants, who came to New Zealand after being promised permanent work and residency visas, were being asked by the government to “bugger off”.
Mr. Bell said that the government seemed to harm this beneficial source of income be throwing workers out whom employers need very desperately.
The worst thing is that this over-reaction for the rising unemployment in the country would actually result in more job losses for Kiwis than it would actually save. Mr. Bell said that it is completely immoral by the government to not only neglect a group of people so important to the country, but also increase their difficulty.
The group said that it hasn’t been able to get in tough with anyone from the government’s side to arrange a meeting organized by the group on the 8th of July in order to get to a solution.
Mr. Bell said that they have contacted some local politicians and Labor MPs, and they have got just one response from the Associate Minister of Immigration, and even that was far from satisfactory. He said that the only thing the group wants is to seek a solution to this problem, but the government doesn’t seem to be interested.
