London -- British Airways cancelled 180 flights for Thursday due to thick fog in London, the British carrier has announced.
The action was taken with further poor visibility expected at London's Heathrow airport, where 200 flights were already cancelled on Wednesday by several airlines including Lufthansa and Alitalia.
Flights to continental Europe were among those affected Wednesday. The biggest impact was on British domestic flights.
Some stranded passengers at Heathrow and elsewhere were already concerned that they might be unable to reach their homes in time for Christmas, with forecasts promising little improvement in the next few days in the ongoing weather problems including poor visibility.
