Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson quits band
After much speculation over whether Kevin Richardson, the oldest member of the Backstreet Boys is planning to quit, an official statement from the band has confirmed that the American singer is actually leaving the band to pursue other interests.
The statement was published on Backstreet Boys website.
Richardson, 33, in a statement on the band's website said, “After 13 years of what can only be described as a dream come true, I have decided that it is time to leave the Backstreet Boys. It was a very tough decision for me but one that was necessary in order to move on with the next chapter of my life.”
On Kevin’s quit, Backstreet Boys, the highest-selling boy band in history stated, “Earlier this year, after much soul searching, Kevin Richardson came to us and told us that he had decided to leave the group and pursue other interests. He gave his blessing to continue the music without him.”
The pop band guided in a new teen-music craze in the late 90's, elevated by their soulful harmonies, synchronized dance steps, clean-cut good looks and charm. Their three albums sold a total of over 35 million copies.
The Florida-based band that enjoyed enormous success in the late 1990s and early 2000s, said they had no plans to replace Richardson and “The door will always be open for him to return to the Backstreet Boys. We wish him the all the best in his future endeavours.”
About his former Band’s inmates, Kevin said, “Howard, Brian, Alex and Nick will always be my little brothers and have my utmost love and support. I would like to thank the Backstreet fans for all the beautiful memories we have shared together and look forward to including you in the next phase of my life. I wish my brothers continued success and look forward to their new album.”
The rest of backstreet boys, McLean, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, and Brian Littrell, plan to return to the studio this weekend to begin work on their next album, which is due later this year.
