Canadian fast-track permanent residency option

The only territory in Canada which had an immigrant nominee program in place since 2001 has been the Yukon Territory. And now, to give it a company, the Canadian Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney, has announced the New Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP). With the help of the fast-track immigration program, Northwest Territories of Canada will be able to fulfill their needs of labor market as well as community.

There are two employer-driven categories for applicants to qualify under, i.e. the Skilled Worker Stream and the Critical Impact Worker Stream. At the same time, there are also two business categories, namely the Entrepreneur and the Self-Employed.

Under the Skilled Workers stream, a Northwest Territory employer can nominate an individual provided the employer is unable to fill the vacancy by hiring a citizen or permanent resident of Canada. Also, the applicant needs to have a permanent full-time job offer in a Skilled, Managerial or Professional occupation.

As is the case under the Skilled Workers stream, even under the Critical Impact Workers, an applicant needs to have a permanent, full-time job offer from an employer of Northwest Territories, provided the vacancy couldn’t be filled by hiring a citizen or permanent resident of Canada. However, the job offer provided by the applicant must fall into a position in the semi-skilled service industry. In addition to this, applicants under this category must have worked on temporary work permit in Northwest Territories for a minimum of six months in the same position.

People who are willing to begin a new or existing business in Northwest Territories can immigrate under the Entrepreneurs Business category. They would be required to meet a personal net worth and also invest a predetermined minimum amount in the business they have planned.

Finally under the Self-Employed Business category, applicants must prove that they have an occupation or a profession from the Northwest Territories skills shortage list.
