Announcement of plans to restructure US visa process.
In their bid to lead the country, both the candidates, Barack Obama and John McCain, of the US presidential campaign are using immigration reform as a key voting issue.
The latest plea on US immigration comes from the democrat leader Barack Obama, who is vowing to create more jobs in the US and also offer wider opportunities. He said this at a recent speech and also expressed his feelings on streamlining the process of high-skilled H-2B visas for the Indians and other foreigners in order to make sure that employers do not take undue advantage of the system.
The US has always been known as the most popular destination for migrant workers and deemed by many as the land of opportunity and immense freedom. Although there is a high popularity of people willing to live, work and study in the US, the application rules and visa processes of the US are often criticized of being complicated and complex.
Under the current labour market, many countries are crying for skilled workers in a number of key employment areas in which they are facing shortages. And these capable workers are being actively employed with the implementation of a number of highly skilled migration visas. This has been clearly observed in the UK, with the new Tier 1 points based system, and also in Canada and Australia.
Speaking on the H-2B visa program, Obama said that it is a program under which foreign nationals with specialized skills are supposed to be able to come to the US and be sponsored by their employer. The US also offers H-1B visa in addition to the H-2B visa, on which Obama said that he intends to tighten its use.
According to global visas, the H-1B visa application functions in a similar way to the UK work permit application, in which the process in employer lead and begins only after an offer of employment form the United States based company. Therefore, when immigrating to the United States, it is essential to have a pre-arranged job in all cases.
Speaking of his skepticism regarding the visa program of the United States Immigration and Citizenship and if he is elected, then what would be his plans to ensure that foreign workers are not been exploited by the employers, Obama addressed his supporters with a hypothetical situation to put the alarming issue into context.
