A HIV positive immigrant sentenced for 8 years of imprisonments.
A thirty-five year old man didn’t warn his two girlfriends about the deadly virus that he was carrying.
He was an HIV-positive immigrant and failing to warn his girlfriends about his medical condition, he was sentenced to eight years in prison.
The 35-year old immigrant, who cannot be named due to the court order, will face automatic deportation after his jail term, to his native Africa. Until he completes his jail term, he won’t be kicked out of the country.
Nathan Nurgitz, Queen’s Bench Justice, gave than man double credit for the thirty-four months he has already served. Thus, he has to serve only twenty-four months behind the bars now.
In one of the first cases of its kind in Manitoba, the man was convicted this summer of two counts of aggravated sexual assault. Crown Attorney Melinda Murray said that the man poses danger to public and specially women. Thus, he deserves condemnation form the court, Murray said.
Murray said that there is no regret for him as he does not care for that due to his acts, these women might have contacted HIV. The only fault of these women was that they loved him and he took advantage of it.
However, the person in question denied that he had done anything wrong. During the trail, he took the witness stand in his own defense and he claimed that he warned his partners that he was HIV-positive and it was their own decision to have sex with him.
One of the victims was a 17-year old girl who became pregnant after having sex with him. After knowing about his health, she tried to run over him with her van. She miscarried after that. The other victim also got pregnant after having sex with the man and she eventually gave birth to the man’s child.
During the court’s hearing, one of the victims said that she believes that she literally slept with devil. She said that to use sex as a weapon in order to kill people is totally inhumane and no punishment that is suited for his crime.
The Crown said that the man had been repeatedly warned by the medical officials regarding his responsibilities towards his partners. But he didn’t care about his responsibilities and went on to suffice his lust.
Another 31-year old Sudanese immigrant was also convicted this July for putting six young Winnipeg’s women life at risk by hiding his HIV positive status.
