A thirty four year old Canadian man, Bradley Hanaback was sentenced to four years in prison this week after he was found guilty of arranging a trip to Mexico that was set for the purpose of having sex with a with a minor. According to the US federal authorities, the would-be tourist was also ordered by the US district judge Susan R. Bolton, to serve a lifetime of supervised release after his release from the prison.
In March 2008, Hanaback pleaded guilty to one count of travel with the intention of having sex with a minor. In his guilty plea, Hanaback admitted that he was in Arizona on Oct. 23, 2007 and was going to Mexico in order to have sex with a minor, whom he believed to be not more than 10-year old boy. According to the factual statement, Hanaback has previously shown his interest towards an advertisement that was arranging a child sex tour to Mexico and following this, he paid a sum of $50 as deposit so that his trip could be arranged. After Hanaback confirmed that he was willing to be engaged in various sex acts with a minor, he was arrested by the federal agents with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Trial Attorney James Silver of the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section and Senior Litigation Council Vincent Q. Kirby of the District of Arizona prosecuted the case. ICE was handling the investigation.
