In a ceremony that was held today, ten people from the Missouri State Highway Patrol were made federal immigration and custom enforcement agents.
In the course of performing their duties under the current designation, these people will be liable for the enforcement of federal immigration law. Blunt said in a statement that he will not tolerate illegal activities and it was his priority to have the state troopers on the ground in Missouri so that they can enforce the immigration laws.
Blunt ordered the troopers to check the immigration status of all the people who were arrested last summer. These checks have resulted in the arrest of several hundred people who were living in the country illegally.
The ten troopers who completed their training today went through a four-week training course in South Carolina at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. Four of these troopers will be at the patrol’s gaming division, the place where the state’s riverboat casinos are monitored. The remaining three will be distributed in Kansas City, St. Louis and Springfield.
It is believed that the federal Save Act will be very beneficial to the state immigration laws. Those trucks that are used to bring in drugs and illegal immigrants into America needs to be stopped as soon as possible. Therefore it is a common opinion that the funding for the law enforcement should increase in order to achieve these goals. Actually many people believe that there is a need of zero tolerance enforcement as this will result in the arrest of almost all the predator employers of illegal immigrants.
At the same time many are of the belief that implementing a zero tolerance enforcement is not going to provide any success and thus a more thought of and well planned effort is needed to stop the supply of drugs and illegal immigrants.
