This one is a real surprise. Crafted as a thriller, it ends up as a smart little film that comes from nowhere, minus all fanfare, without any starry baggage and yet, it manages to hold your interest through the sundry twists and turns of devious romance.
Rating: 3 starRaqueeb (thriller)
For Tanushree Dutta, this was definitely as a role of a lifetime as Sophie, the temptress who twists all the men in the movie around her finger. Sometimes she seems to do it for money, coz diamonds she believes, are truly a girl’s best friend. And sometimes, she seems to be doing it for unconditional, undying love. But all the time, she does it quite skillfully, except for one eye score: her corny dress sense. Now here’s one girl who desperately needs a stylist to bring out the oomph factor in her.
Of course, the men aren’t shadows in the movie. All three of them stand out and stirring portrayals. If Rahul Khanna is a gentleman of the show with his low key pizzazz as a desi Bill Gates who loses his heart to high class treash, then Jimmy Shergill with all his new hair do. He pitches in as the angry young loser in this taleof deceit and heartbreak. as for Sharman Joshi, the guy’s like quicksilver. He simply blends into any and every role, be it the goofy oddball sidekick or the diehard loyalist friend.
Juggle all these characters together and here is what you get… a taut, paisa vasool film where the fringe actors nobody dares to give these guys real roles walk away with your applause. Go have fun.
