The hero's struggle as he is stuck home with a backache and an idiotic companion.
Verdict: Effortless performances by lead players are worth savouring.
Box office prospects: Low star appeal nd comic quotient may not appeal the audience
Ranjeet's (Rajat kapoor) delectable singer wife Sheetal (Sarika) just doesn't approve of her husband's mad Friday dinners where each participant fetches and idiot and a competition is held to decide 'who's the dumbest of them all.' Just to appease his wife, Ranjeet accompanies her for her recording where he trundles out and bumps into Indian Idol contestants. He begins to "test" them as his Friday night entrants. Sheetal comes out searching for him and finds him all wrapped up in his "auditions." She walks out in a huff...... welcome to the new age comedy.
But nothing is going to put off Ranjeet. With the help of his friend he zeros down on Bharat Bhushan (Vinay pathak), an income tax employee cum singing enthusiast who will unfurl his scrap book at the first possible oppurunity to show off his singing achievements in the form of paper cuttings of his winning school and college competitions. Ranjeet invites Bharat Bhushan over for his famous Friday night soiree.
But to his luck, he hurts his back and is unable to even stir out of bed. Yet he is not giving up on his star contestant and calls him over nonetheless. By the time physician (Tom Alter) has given him painkillers.
Bharat Bhushan arrives on the scene full of bravado and hope in his heart as Ranjeet happens to own a music company. But in due course they discover that Sheetal has walked out on her husband just as Bharat Bhushan's wife had deserted him earlier. the prospective idiot is now hellbent on reuniting the estranged couple. He will go to the extend of calling up Sheetal's ex- boyfriend Anant Ghoshal (Milind Soman) in the guise of Bhojpuri filmmaker seeking the rights of his music.
But it is confusion confounded as Ranjeet's girlfriend , Suman Rao ( Bhairavi Goswami) lands up at their place and so does Anant Ghoshal. What ensues is complete chaos which in parts raises some chuckles but by and large, the film develops in to tepid comedy.
However, Vinay pathak's sincere performance, Sarika's breezy presence coupled with rajat Kapoort's suave and subtle act adds a crackle to the film. Techanically it is a neat product, but somewhere it doesn't have enough punch to tickle you pink. But debutant director Sagar ballary scores in his perfect casting and creates some sparkling moments like the way Bharat Bhushan coaxes Sheetal into beleiving that her husband cares for her only to spoil the whole scene in the end by revealing undesired details about her not- exactly errant husband. Also laudable is the closeness of the film to reality. This is all so credible.
