With love’s true instinct, back to thee!
~Thomas Moore
With the birth of a child a woman realizes a new persona evolving from her own, a new name is given to her: she becomes a mother. This gives her a new perspective to look at the things around her, the feeling with which she feels on the top of the world, hence the world moves around with the sprinkles of happiness from a loving mother. Truly the incarnation of God, she is one who is full of love, full of compassion, the one who showers untold and unnumbered presents. She is the one who lead us to the discovery of the world in which we live.
These are one of the few reasons that we are celebrating Mothers Day paying due homage to the kind and benevolent living god on this earth. But the question of the hour is whether we are giving her the credit she is eligible for or the mother’s day celebrations remain only in names on the calendar. The increase in the number of old age homes raises an alarm. Quite often we listen to the heart touching stories when the children abandon their parents as they grow old. They forget their mother’s endless hours of sleepless nights by virtue of which they have succeeded in acquiring their present status. The actual respect to the mothers on this very mothers day will be when all those who have sent their parents to the old age homes, brings them back home and give them a room under the same roof, with the same sense of sharing and caring as they themselves have acquired once from their mothers. She understands her children, their needs and their problems even if they do not tell her anything. So why can’t we being her children read her eyes which are longing for us.
We call our nation ‘motherland’, but the pride we take in naming ourselves as sons and daughters of the soil becomes actually senseless when we are unable to give the respect to our own mother back home.
A mother is a masterpiece created by the God; it seems as if God has provided her with a bewhiskered magic wand. Blessed with caring and sharing nature, she has the potential to turn the lives around her by spreading love and warmth. She is the one who makes people realize that the life is worth living for and more beautiful than our imagination. Her language of love is understood all over the world. She is the epitome of sacrifice and one can bet that whenever there is shortage of food, she is the one who is always ready to give away her share as well. Smiling even in the times of trouble, she readily gathers strength from distress, making everyone around her brave as well.
Not going into to the details of how and when were the mothers day celebrations initiated, our concern is to tell the mothers around the world that it is not for this one particular day only but we respect you from the very day a mother is born. For we are the children of the greatest gift by God, we respect you throughout the year and efforts will be made to make everyday a happy mothers day.
