Lataji conferred with 'Legend Honour' at Sangeet Awards

Lata Mangeshkar, the Melody queen has been conferred the 'Legend Honour', at the Sahara One Sangeet Awards 2005. The Award was presented to Lata Mangeshkar by Jaya Bachchan in a event held on August 30 at JWT Marriort, Mumbai.
Lataji having been named for the award said she was truly humbled to see the music and film fraternity come together as one to pay her the prestigious tribute.
Sahara One Sangeet Awards trophy adorned with gold and studded in Diamonds was unveiled, the trophy is specially crafted by D'Damas.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay LAL, MD and CEO of Percept D Mark (PDM) International, said, "Lata Mangeshkar's hegemony in the world of playback singing is undisputed. She has lent her voice to heroines across three generations, from Madhubala to Sridevi to Preity Zinta. She is indeed a true living legend and undeniably the supreme voice of the Indian film music. We are deeply honoured to have her with us today to accept the legend honour at this year's Sahara One Sangeet awards."
Speaking on behalf of the jury, filmmaker Ramesh Sippy said ''Lataji is the ideal exponent of everything to do with film music. Her talent transcends time. She can convey every emotion through her voice. There cannot be anything greater than her and the contribution of Lata Mangeshkar to Indian musical heritage is irrefutable.''
Deepak Mehta, CEO, Mehta Entertainment, says "At this august occasion, I am experiencing mixed emotions- I am absolutely delighted that Lata ji has accepted the Legend Honour, but at the same time I regret that we have missed the privilege to play host to the precious jewel of Indian music. We will truly miss Lataji at the awards function in the US."
The second Sahara One Sangeet Awards will be held on September 24, 2005 in Oakland, California in the US and over 120 members from the Indian film and music fraternity will be present at the occasion..
