Senior BJP leader Madan Lal Khurana has sent a letter to party president L K Advani demanding removal of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to clear the "taint" on the party due to the Gujarat riots.
Khurana has written a two-page letter to BJP president LK Advani advising him to remove Modi.
The letter cites the example of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who removed Jagdish Tytler after the Nanavati Commission report on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Khurana has cited the Supreme Court's observations on Modi. The apex court had labelled Modi as the Nero of today who was looking the other side while Gujarat burned.
Khurana also noted that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Advani himself had expressed regrets over the riots.
