Ludhiana, August 16: IN YET another theft when the house owners were away, some unidentified thieves decamped with cash and gold jewellery worth Rs two lakh from a house in Hari Kartar colony in Janakpuri area.
The theft occurred sometime between August 13 to 15, when the family was away to Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. The theft came to light today when the family returned to their house.
The house belongs to Rakesh Puri, a karyana merchant. According to sources, Puri had recently bought this house and his family had moved in last week only. Last week, the family had also organised a jagran in the house for the grah parvesh (entry in new house).
Sources said that after that, the family left for the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine on August 13. Sources said that Puri had given the keys of his house to one of his neighbours, Sunil Malhotra, and had asked him to keep a watch on the house during their absence.
Sources said that yesterday, Sunil Malhotra saw that the locks of Puri’s house were open. He informed the other area residents, and together the residents put another lock on the house.
Today morning when the Puri family came back and entered the house, they found it ransacked. On close inspection, the family found cash worth Rs 90,000 and gold jewellery weighing about 30 tolas missing.
The family has informed Division 6 police about the theft. The police visited the house and have started investigating the matter. Till the filing of this report, no FIR had been registered in this connection.
