I applied for family class immigration to Canada and have got the Visa too. I would like to know the documents that I need to carry with me at the time entering Canada for Immigration purposes. Any guidance would be appreciated.
In addition ensure following requirements to get Citizenship
Ensure following requirements before you apply for Citizenship to Canada
1. Please ensure that the application is made by person above the legal age of 18 years. In case of persons younger than this age, application may be made through their legal guardians.
2. Ensure to have a valid permanent resident card before applying for Canadian Citizenship
3. Please ensure that you fulfill the condition of staying for certain minimum number of years (three out of five)
4. Please ensure good command in some language as English or French, one of the two official languages of Canada. You do not have to be completely fluent, but you need to be able to make yourself understood and to understand other people in either of those two languages.
5. Ensure conviction free record. Your criminal history is important as well and you cannot be on probation. If you have had your citizenship stripped within the last five years, you cannot reapply for citizenship.
6. The final criterion for citizenship is that you must have some knowledge of Canada. This means that the applicant must have some basic understanding of the rights and responsibilities of Canadians. When you apply for citizenship, you are issued a book which has some basic facts about Canada and an explanation of the rights and responsibilities of citizens. In most cases, people between 18 and 54 years of age will be required to write a test as part of their citizenship application.
In addition to meeting the eligibility criteria, the applicant must also pay a $200 fee. Part of that $200 fee is a $100 right of citizenship fee, so if your application is denied, you will get $100 back.
Carry following documents in person for smooth immigration
You need to bring following documents, and preferably, carry these documents in person to ensure smooth clearance from immigration:
1. A valid Passport with Canadian immigrant visa and Confirmation of Permanent Residence for each family member travelling with you. In any case, immigration department in your home country would not allow you to depart till you show it to them
2. Copy of a detailed list of all the personal or household items you are bringing with you; and copy of list of items that are arriving later. The lists should state how much your personal and household items are worth. This would help you in saving customs duty later on as those items arrive
3. Please carry with yourself money/proof that you are carrying money at least as specified in the immigration rules. In any case, this sum should be enough to cover living expenses such as rent, food, clothing and transportation for a six-month period. You may be asked to show proof of your funds.
4. Immigration officer may need to interview you to check if you are of good character and in good health.
