Young people prefer working in Canada, Australia

Australia, 22nd July: As per analysts, more and more young people are opting to move overseas and work in Australia and Canada.

Working overseas is attracting large number of people in the young age group. This is in sharp contrast to the earlier times when only the middle-aged and experienced people liked to move overseas for working there.

This could be attributed to growing awareness regarding increasing opportunities of work overseas along with economic slowdow which has compelled youngsters to explore jobs in other nations.

Working overseas seems to have become a norm of working life and is no longer a specialist field, feels executive vice president of ORC Worldwide( an international human resources management company), Siobhan Cummins. The average age of people moving abroad to work there is becoming younger, adds Cummins.

Another analyst, Expat Recruitment’s David Reed also feels the current trend of moving overseas by younger people to work in Australia, Canada and other nations is due to declining opportunities of work along with global economic slowdown.

Earlier, the common notion was to hire middle-aged Brits for senior level jobs abroad. But, now, several younger people are getting opportunities to work at senior positions. Many graduate schemes by big companies invite young people for placements overseas since it is a known fact that giving job opportunities to younger people will help the companies build their goodwill in the international market.

Young people are most attracted towards information technology sector like communications and engineering and this is beneficial not just for the younger employees but also for the companies as well, states Ms. Cummins.

For younger employees, working overseas makes their resume look special and different. And for the company employing younger people, it means the employees have better attention towards their work as they don’t have any bindings like family or property. Moreover, hiring young workforce from overseas means hiring comparatively cheaper employees. It also means increased loyalty for the company hiring workers from overseas.

Many young people get opportunities of working overseas from their employers in their native countries through ITCs (intra-company transfers).

Mr. Reed states that there are many UK companies in Egypt, UAE and North Africa which are looking to hire young Brits having British experience and willing to move overseas.

To increase chances of getting employed in nations abroad, young people should exhibit their awareness of the culture of the country for which they are applying along with a flexible attitude, advises director of Oxford University’s careers service, Jonathan Black.
