US work visa holders do not take agricultural jobs from Americans

United States, 30th September: The US work visa holders do not snatch agricultural jobs from US natives, the findings of a recent survey have revealed.

The study has reiterated that contrary to the common claims by Americans, the fact is that US natives are not ready to be hired for such jobs in the US even when such job positions are available in the nation.

As per the official data by The Associated Press, only a handful of Americans show willingness to be ready for the jobs of harvesting in the US and majority of such workers do not stay in the agriculture fields.

Steve Fortin, a farmer at his nursery located close to the Nevada border said that the US natives don’t prefer doing such jobs and are unwilling to pack their things and move here. Fortin hires immigrant workers to work in his nursery and pay around $10.25 an hour.

There were around 1,160 ads for agriculture jobs in the US posted by California farmers between the months of January to June this year, the AP study shows. All such agriculture jobs in the US were open to legal US residents and US citizens. However, in response to the job ads, just 233 people submitted their job applications after getting to know about such job vacancies.

Manager of agriculture services unit in California Employment Development Department, Lucy Ruelas, said that it’s really surprising to get such a scanty response from Americans for agriculture jobs in the nation despite the fact that they are invited for such jobs on a priority.

Reasons for US people not showing interest in agriculture jobs in the US might be due to several reasons. These include the fact that people want to be hired at jobs immediately while agriculture labor jobs take months to begin, stated Ruelas.

Moreover, many Americans do not want any affect on the claims received by them for unemployment insurance.

An amount of $3,000 was spent by Fortin for advertising agriculture jobs on electronic employment registry and in several newspapers just to ensure that domestic workers are hired for agriculture jobs before the immigrants.

However, he got absolutely no domestic candidates for the agriculture jobs.
