US visas in great demand despite US visa fee hike

United States, 27th August: Findings of the latest survey by Gallup reveal that migrants from the world over still prefer immigrating to the US to work there.

This has reinstated the fact that US work visas are still in huge demand globally.

As part of the survey by Gallup, the researchers held interview sessions with nearly 350,000 adults hailing from 148 nations between the years 2007 and 2010. The survey findings indicated that Singapore is the top destination for immigration in the world.

The researchers at Gallup aim to find the PNMI (Potential Net Migration Index) of the member nations.

The research also revealed a harrowing fact- that if all aspiring immigrants to the US are granted US visas by US immigration department, then, the total population of America would go up by a whopping 60 percent.

And if every aspirant for a Singapore visa was allowed to immigrate, population of Singapore would reach to 15 million, making an increase by 219 percent. Similarly, population of New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Canada and Australia would increase by 184 percent, 176 percent, 160 percent and 148 percent respectively.

The survey to know the migration trends across the world found the US at 14th position on the list of net migration while it emerged as a top destination for international workers to live and work.

This is especially noticeable in the wake of recent hike announced by Barack Obama led US government introducing an increase in the fee for US H-1B and L-1 visas.

According to the head of TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) for Asia Pacific, Vish Iyer, the new US visa fee is not a cause of worry. Iyer said that the company is likely to get much more business from US companies in the coming times irrespective of any political developments.

The passage of the recent Wall Street reform is resulting in an increased demand from various US banks which need more help from Indian IT companies, Iyer added. He said that the company employs nearly 700 employees at a center in Cincinnati which was opened barely three years ago. TCS Inc. happens to be the biggest IT services company of India.
