US shows irresponsible attitude towards immigrant workers

United States, 4th September: Obama administration is showing its irresponsibility towards immigrant workers by firing them without working towards their deportation.

By doing so, he certainly has restrained from following Bush government’s raids on various places of work in the US which were found to be hiring illegal immigrants. Nonetheless, the Obama administration is showing a lackluster attitude towards illegal immigrants.

Recently, Obama led US government had fired nearly 1,800 immigrant workers of American Apparel following an enquiry by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agency. The enquiry revealed that the company had hired immigrant workers who did not possess requisite identity papers required for living and working in the US by immigrant workers.

The aim of all such raids on the employers involved in hiring illegal immigrants in the US was to put a cap on all such activities proliferating in the US. It has been found that employers hiring illegal immigrants in the US often exploit their workers by paying exorbitantly low wages and making them work in deplorable conditions in the US.

The US government has increased the number of such raids on workplaces in the US by nearly 50 percent in the recent months as compared to those conducted during the Bush administration era.

Moreover, the amount of fines collected by the ICE from firms employing illegal workers in the US has touched a whopping $3 million.

Still, it is being argued by conservatives is that number of arrests of illegal immigrant workers in the US has gone down considerably.

As per the recent reports, the percentage of deportation following arrests of illegal immigrants in the US has gone down by 80 percent as compared to the figures during Bush era.

The Obama administration is being criticized for not taking required action in terms of arrests and deportation of such immigrant workers. There is an imminent need to take a tougher stand against illegal immigrants since deportation and arrest is not sufficient to deter others from following the same path, feel the conservatives in the US.

There is an immediate need for an overhaul in the US immigration policy. But restricted resources seem to be binding the hands of the US administration who has now resolved to focus only on serious criminals and law offenders in the US rather than arresting those whose only fault is working in the US without holding valid US work visas.
