US now ask Green Card holders to get Citizenship

US is now asking its Green Card holder to attain its citizenship and avail the benefits offered to them.

As per the news of NRIs, this year the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has come up with a new drive of asking around 7 million Green Card holders of the country to get the Citizenship.

As per the USCIS reports there are around 12.5 million green card holders in the country and out of them 7.9 million are already eligible for it.

Reasons for not applying for citizenship:

According to the Gitomer people do not become citizens because they are not aware of the benefits. Some have the misconceptions that having green card is enough they can work and travel easily and have no requirement for citizenship.

Benefits of Citizenship:

Attaining the citizenship will help them getting benefits of voting, having the US passport to travel around more easily and also obtaining better jobs

The Drive:

They are trying to bring out the benefits of being country’s citizens and asking them to avail them by being a part of the country.

Mariana Gitomer, the USCIS representative from Los Angles, commented on the drive, that this drive will be helpful for the people who are already the permanent residents of the country, through this step they will be able to enjoy all the benefits given by the government to its citizens.

To publicize about this drive, the Citizen Public and Awareness Initiative will telecast about it on television and radio advertisements and also on the Internet so that the message is conveyed through all possible resources.

Gitomer further add on that the drive will be in progress for 3 coming years and will be funded by an allotment made in the Fiscal Year 2010 by the federal government. The amount for this cause is estimated around$ 11 million. The funds are supposed to be divided among the organizations that will let the green card holders know about it and would also help to convince them.

This message will is to be broadcasted especially in the areas where immigrants having green card are quiet high mainly in cities of Los Angeles, states of Florida, Texas and New York.

For mass coverage the message will be conveyed in various languages that are in Chinese, Vietnamese, Spanish and English, so that nobody can skip it.

The first line of the advertisement created for the drive will signify the value of being a US citizen.

The drive will take care of the immigrants those who have already attained the green cards but still not the citizens of the country. It has been found that in California around 3 million people have green card from almost since five years but have not got the citizenship.
