US immigration system in need of major overhaul
by Guneet S - April 6, 2010
United States, 6th April: The US immigration system needs to make significant changes to help provide a solution to the unending woes of undocumented immigrants in the nation.

Getting a PR (permanent residence) in the US is one of the top issues that continue to bother every other immigrant in the US. An immigrant in the US is left with no alternative but to wait for receiving their US visa.
WOES OF UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS IN THE US---
• The harrowing fact is that this wait for getting a valid legal US visa can range anywhere between 6 years to 20 years for the family members or even the employers wanting to sponsor any applicant for getting entry into the US.
• The need for reforms in the US immigration system is made all the more imminent seeing the uncertain fate of undocumented immigrants living in the US presently. There are some US citizens who can’t tolerate any undocumented immigrants in their society and want to get rid of them at any cost.
• The agony of the problem is heightened since the children of such undocumented immigrants in the US have no alternative but to fight for themselves once they graduate.
• The root cause of the problem can, to a certain extent, be blamed on the wrongful US immigration policies which are indirectly responsible for not allowing the undocumented children in the US to gain legal status and gain US citizenship
• Although the US immigration law does not punish the children who have gained entry into the US illegally and even allowed to study in the schools in the US, but the woes unfold only when these children become adults. They have no way to become legal residents of the US, as per the US immigration laws.
• And they can’t get jobs in the US, get any work in the US and not eligible for any loans or federal student aid in the US.
The only vague and impractical solution to the problems of undocumented children in the US for gaining US citizenship is to leave the country for a minimum period of 10 years and then apply for a US visa provided they have a family member or an employer offering US visa.
