United States, 31st May: US immigration department has issued a new version of the EAD(employment authorization document) in a bid to curb immigration fraud in the nation.
This was announced by the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services). The EAD is also known by another name Form I-766.
The change in the design of the EAD or employment card was to have a machine-readable zone on its back side. The latest updated US employment card by the US immigration was issued by the US immigration from 11th May, 2010 onwards. The addition of the machine-readable zone on the employment card in the US will make it in accordance with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Another change in the US employment card or the EAD by the US immigration department has been the removal of the two-dimensional bar code at the back of this card. The information text box has been repositioned just under the magnetic stripe of the US employment card.
However, all the other original features of the EAD have remained unchanged.
The EAD or the US employment card is issued only to the successful applicants getting US work visa. It is a legal document that allows all the US visa holders to work in the US.
The latest revisions introduced by the US immigration department in the EAD card that is considered a legal ticket for US work visa holders to start work in the US are the result of wide ongoing collaborations between various components under the Department of Homeland Security like Customs and Border Protection and US Immigration and Custom Enforcement; and the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Meanwhile, it may be clarified that the EAD card is not any proof of the permanent residence or the US citizenship of the card holder and any alterations on this card are likely to be revoked by the government of the US.
Recently, the US immigration department has announced its decision of redesigning of US Green Card or the Permanent Resident Card by incorporating quite a few security features. Redesigning of the US Green Card is also the result of the collaborations between the DHS, US Customs and Border Protection and ICE(immigration and customs enforcement) Forensic Document Laboratory.
