United States, 5th October: The US immigrant investor program seems to be a viable solution of creating new jobs in the US.
Under the US immigrant investor program, foreigners willing to make investments are invited to come to the US and set up businesses here. And this helps in creation of new jobs in the US economy.
The fact that the US economy is passing through tough financial times and is in dire need of job creation to survive proves the significance of immigrant investor program for the nation.
Requirements of US immigrant investor program—EB 5 Visa program--Under the US immigrant investor program, foreigners ready to invest between $500,000 and $1 million in any business enterprise with the aim of generating new jobs in the US are eligible to apply for US immigrant investor visas.
The program has been launched in 1990 and has witnessed expansion following huge success in the last couple of years. Under this US visa program, the US government has an annual quota of 10,000 visas. However, the annual quota is seldom reached.
Does it amount to selling US citizenship--Many a times, it has been complained by Senators that such an immigrant program amounts to selling of American citizenship to foreigners and hence, it must be stopped immediately.
According to Senate Minority Leader Nancy Jacobs from Harford County, the US must ban the US immigrant investor visa program since this amounts to selling the nation to the Chinese nationals.
However, this concept is baseless and without any truth. The only thing to be done to make the immigrant investor visa program more effective is by prioritizing foreigners who have been successful in their own nations.
US immigrant investor program creates US jobs--It may be recalled that the US government allows only those foreign investors to immigrate to the US under the US immigrant investor visa program who are going to contribute to the US economy and are willing to integrate into the US society.
Hence, the fact is that immigration to the US under the immigrant investor visa program is legal.
And the myth that such immigrants steal away jobs from the native Americans is wholly baseless. On the contrary, it is these immigrants who are creating new job opportunities for the Americans.
That’s a point which all critics of EB 5 visa program need to keep in their minds.
