US Colleges: Not So Desirable Anymore?
by Vinita Amrit - June 26, 2011
The United States that has been the most preferred destination of youth of Indonesia and a dream destination for majority of the fresh foreign students in quest of a college degree from a foreign university has turned out to be a hard seller throughout the past decade.

Drastic Down Fall in number of Fresh Enrollments and Fierce Competition in U.S Colleges: The quantity of Indonesian students who were admitted to any particular college in US for a minimum of 12 months has drastically dropped informed a native organizer. The same had been reveled by the data released by a New York-based organization of intercontinental education.
U.S. colleges are facing mounting antagonism from other countries — in the midst of this competitive situation, Australia is emerging as a new fascination to more than thousands of permanent Indonesian students. These students are studying abroad since year 2008.
Enrolment of students in USA slopes down: Nevertheless, as additional countries inquire about hard cash in on the mounting market for worldwide students, the USA is trailing position. From 2000 to 2008, the number of students enrolled in a college outside their home country ascended 85 per cent to 3.3 million. During this period, the US’ share lowered from 24 per cent to 19 per cent, as per the Organization for Economic Co-operative Development.
Reasons for Visa Rejection: Price tag, remoteness and persistent uncertainties on the subject of visa rejection post the 9/11 period have demagnetized the charm of the USA on foreign students. From being recognized as foundation of intelligence to a menacing money-spinning marketplace with multiplicity for educational institutions, US is displaying all the more reasons the be on the less attractive list amongst foreign youth.
In the light of the depressing facts and figures, “We encompass an immense artifact and our contribution is the preeminent in the world. However, we don't desire to take a break on our success”, informed one of the US officials.
Lack of unity among different U.S. College administrations: The State Department has prime accountability for encouraging U.S. schooling overseas as part of its assignment to reinforce worldwide ties and reciprocated indulgent. While extremely discerning U.S. colleges contest with apex colleges in other countries for the greatest and smart students, just a handful are demanding to construct a worldwide status as a mode to amplify multiplicity on their premises — and enhance revenues.
The trade Departments clinches foreign students fetch more than gift and varied perspectives to U.S. campuses. Amid education and livelihood fixed cost, they shelled out $20 billion to the U.S. financial system previous year, building advanced education along with the nation's top service exports. As foreign students characteristically happen to forfeit a superior non-resident schooling at public universities thus, to turn the table around and maintain its reputation, the US educational institutes need to awake in the light of facts and enlighten before the damage becomes a bit too difficult to control.
