Undocumented immigrant students await signing of Dream Act

United States, 16th September: After being successful in getting access to public financial help for pursuing higher education, undocumented immigrant students are now awaiting signature of California governor for making Dream Act a reality.

California Governor Jerry Brown has the right opportunity to sign AB-131, the second part of California Dream Act.

AB-131—Also known as California Dream Act, a dream long pursued by a large number of undocumented immigrant students in this US state, signing of AB-131 will enable those who successfully graduate from any high school of California and also show merit as well as the need for applying to state aids including public funded scholarships.

It may be mentioned that all deserving immigrant students are allowed to make applications for privately funded scholarships, thanks to the bill passed by the lawmakers in August this year.

Rally by LA students, educators in support of California Dream Act—California Dream Act – part two has been winning support from far and wide. As per the information, a large number of students as well as educators have been rallying in Los Angeles outside the Edward Roybal Learning Center yesterday to express their support for AB-131, California Dream Act part two.

The students are urging California Gov. Brown to sign the next part of Dream Act as promised. Apart from LA students, the bill also has the support of the ASC(Associated Student Council). The bill, if passed, would provide the undocumented immigrant students more state money. Onus lies on Gov.

Brown to pass Dream Act—The bill AB 131 has already cleared California assembly by 45-27. And the onus lies on Governor Brown to sign it within a span of 30 days, stated Senator Steve Li after presenting AB-131.

He has already signed the initial part of the Dream Act-AB-130 in July this year, and the signing of this bill into law will be a ‘dream come true’ for a large number of undocumented immigrant students in California. Around 11,000 postcards have been forwarded to California Gov. Brown by California students urging him to sign the AB-131.

The students presented postcards to the staff of Gov. Brown during a press conference by the students and the author of the Dream Act bill.
