UK visas granted to immigrants while Brits remain unemployed
United Kingdom, 23rd November: As per the latest revelation by the UK Home Office, thousand of UK visas were given to migrants for allowing them to live and work in the UK despite a large number of unemployed and qualified Brits for such jobs.
The UK government issued 2,202 UK visas to immigrants wanting to work as cooks and chefs in the UK. Meanwhile, the country had around 11,960 UK cooks and chefs without any jobs.
And a total of 1,694 UK visas were issued to international care workers while the nation had a total of 33,265 Britons qualified as home care workers and care assistants but without any jobs in the UK. Moreover, the UK government granted UK visas to 1,100 immigrant IT professionals while the nation had a total of 4,500 British IT professionals searching relevant jobs in the country between March 2009 and March 2010.
No wonder, such Britons with no jobs in the UK were forced to look for jobseekers allowance.
And that’s what exactly led the UK Prime Minister David Cameron to work towards bringing down high levels of immigration in the UK.
Moreover, Mr. Cameron also insister that the highly skilled immigrants in the UK should not do jobs they are overqualified for adding the UK already has sufficient number of Britons ready to work on such jobs including that of cashiers, store assistants etc.
And the UK PM also said that the route of UK student visas must not be misused by the foreign students as a way to seek employment in the UK since the nation is already struggling to provide jobs to the Britons.
He asserted on bringing down the UK immigration levels to the tens of thousands from the current level of hundreds of thousands. For this, he has insisted on ensuring that the UK visas must be granted to those foreigners whose skills are in high demand in the UK and who can make a positive contribution to the UK economy.
However, many UK businesses have argued that a cap on skilled migrant workers will restrict them from bringing the skilled workers needed for successful working of their businesses.
