UK top magnet for EU migrants
by Christine M - February 8, 2013
United Kingdom, 8th February: The UK has become the top migrant magnet, findings of a recent EU study reveal.

And it has overtaken Germany and Spain as the popular destinations for immigrants wanting to seek shelter overseas.
Britain top immigrant magnet—The top target for foreigners wanting to come and work is none other than Britain, reveal the findings of a recent study. As per the figures, nearly 590,950 arrived in Britain in the year 2010 and this is almost double the number of migrants opting to immigrate to France.
Britain has emerged as the top immigrant magnet in the EU. And nearly 50,000 may join the UK in the first five years, says MigrationWatch.
The number of immigrant arrival in Spain was 465,000, followed by 458,000 in Italy and 404,100 in Germany. However, it was the UK who was leading with the figures of 590,950 in the year 2010.
Overstrained public services, social services due to mass immigration levels--The report findings are not surprising for Londoners and those living in various parts of England. After all, they are not new to the overwhelming immigration levels in the UK for quite some time now.
The UK is struggling to cope up with strained housing, public services and health services and this is due to increasingly high level of UK immigration. The UK is heading towards chaos and the onus must go to the wrong immigration policies of the former UK government, states Sir Andrew Green, chairman of the Campaign Group Migration Watchdog.
That’s not all. It is being estimated that economic migrants hailing from Romania and Bulgaria will head towards the UK in the year 2014 when both these nations become full-fledged member of the EU(Eastern Union).
Once both Bulgaria and Romania gain membership of the EU, they will no longer be subject to restrictions on immigration of low-skilled foreigners.
Although, the efforts are being made by the UK government to bring the UK immigration levels under control, but the task is going to be quite difficult, Sir Green stated. The immigration level has come down considerably to 183,000 but still, it is above quite high as compared to the net migration level in Germany.
