UK immigration minister warns against abuse of UK visa rules

United Kingdom, 26th August: Damian Green, the UK Minister for Immigration has warned against any abuse of UK visa rules by immigration agents and migrants from Punjab(India).

Green, who is on a three-day visit to India, held consultations with Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal and the Director General of Police(Punjab) asking to provide all help to put a full stop on illegal immigration to the UK from Punjab.
UK, no doubt, has gained immensely from immigration in the last couple of years, especially from highly skilled migrants from Punjab (India) coming to the UK, asserted Green. However, he maintained that there is an overwhelming need to control immigration to the UK in order to get maximum benefits not just for the UK economy but also for the immigrants who come to live and work in the UK.
UK immigration minister Green also stated that the rules for the UK student visas are also being evaluated currently to see that they attract and allow only the brightest wanting to come to the UK to study here and prevent migrants whose sole aim through UK student visas is to get work in the UK.
He also clarified that UK government is having consultations to limit economic migration to the country. Also, there is going to be a zero-limit on unskilled immigration to the UK, he added.
Nonetheless, the government of UK will continue to focus on attracting the best including entrepreneurs, investors and the skilled and talented professionals who are going to help towards development of the UK economy, Green said.
While having talks with Mr. Badal and the DGP, Green said that the new UK immigration policy to come into effect from April 2011 will not hinder, in any way, the immigration of skilled migrants into the UK.
Mr. Green said that every month, the UK immigration department was deporting nearly 100 illegal immigrants hailing from India back to their native nation. Also, around 200 Indian migrants were held in different UK jails.
All changes in the UK immigration rules by the UK government are aimed to check any abuse of UK visa rules by migrants, Green summarized.
