UK immigration changes mean slavery for women

United Kingdom, 5th February: More and more women migrants are becoming victims of slavery due to recent changes to UK immigration rules.

This has been witnessed following several reports in the UK.

Women migrants’ trafficking up—UK immigration changes have increased woes for migrant women in the UK rather than doing anything good. Yes, it has been noticed that a large number of women having migrated to the UK are being forced to work as household maids in not only private homes but even embassies in the UK.

So, it has become quite clear that the new UK immigration rules have failed to offer any relief from slavery for women migrants.

Women are being migrated to the UK to work as maids in homes and embassies despite recent changes to the UK immigration norms.

As per the figures from a specialist service aimed to help women being forced to work as slaves in the UK, the number has doubled in the period of six months ending December 2012. And this is a cause of serious concern.

High rate of abuse among foreign maids in the UK—Employers in the UK misusing foreign maids(known as domestic servitude) has gone up as a large number of such victims refuse to reveal their tale of woes just because they fear they might get deported from the UK by the immigration authorities.

The figures show an increase of 25 percent in the number of victims reporting their abuse at the hands of their employers in the UK. And this does not include those who shy away from coming forward and telling the truth.

So, the issue is more serious than shown by official figures, feel charities.

How did the changes affect women migrants—Plight of the women migrants getting misused by their employers in the UK has been worsened due to recent UK immigration changes.

The changed immigration laws introduced April 2012, immigrant women working as maids in the UK are restricted from changing their employer, a provision available to them prior to April 2012 immigration. Moreover, they are able to get a UK visa up to a maximum period of six months.

In case of foreign maids coming to work for diplomatic missions can stay in the UK for five years but are not allowed to change employer.
