UK immigration cap damaging

United Kingdom, 20th August: The recently announced annual cap on UK immigration is being stated by many as extremely damaging for the UK economy.

According to the UK Business Secretary, Vince Cable, the annual limit on number of immigrants allowed into the UK by the UK government has put a break on the companies wanting to invest because of the fear of not getting requisite workers from outside the European Union(EU).
Mr. Cable fears that the annual cap on UK immigration levels is a political stunt that will restrict high-skilled and professional workers to live and work in the UK. Several companies in the UK are finding it difficult to function because of inability to get required key workers including managers, specialist engineers and others from non EU nations.
Even the present mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who is a Conservative politician, has lashed out heavily the plans of his party to cap the number of immigrants from non-EU nations on UK work visas.
Johnson said that the latest change in the UK immigration policy is likely to put economic recovery of the UK economy at a great risk.
Hence, there is an immediate and compulsive need for a reconsideration of the UK immigration policy by the UK government.
The UK government has sought suggestions from the UK businesses for bringing changes in the present immigration policy of the nation. Aptly titled ‘Limits on non-EU economic migration’, the Government consultation had asked people of the UK to give their suggestions on the controversial policy to bring down UK immigration levels to tens of thousands.
The aim of the present consultation sought by the UK government is to get public views of how exactly should the limit on UK immigration work. The UK government is in favor of capping number of migrants entering the UK each year since it strains public services of the nation and results in big problems for the people.
Meanwhile, the official spokesperson of the UK Prime Minister denied that the UK economy will suffer due to proposed cuts in the UK immigration levels to be introduced with effect from April 2011 onwards.
Moreover, the spokesperson also reiterated that UK government will give due consideration to all the related facts before implementing any final decision.
