UK immigration to ban hair-stylists, welders, air-traffic controllers, welcome foreign nurses

United Kingdom, 10th February: The UK immigration is all set to reduce the number of skilled occupations by one-third under the new rules.

This means a ban on the UK work visas for hair-stylists, shop managers, welders and many more.
These new UK immigration rules are meant to protect UK jobs for British workers, the UK government advisers revealed.
These proposals, if accepted, will mean a reduction of one-third of total UK visas for those coming to the UK under skilled immigrant category.
The total reduction will be to the tune of nearly 10,000 UK visas. Apart from the above named skilled occupations, other skilled occupations likely to get axed by the UK immigration rules include lab technicians, pipe fitters, florists, beauty salon managers and steel erectors.
A total of 71 job roles are likely to be excluded from the UK Tier 2 visa category under the PBS (points based system) if the MAC (Migration Advisory Committee) suggestions are to be accepted. This will bring the total number of eligible skill categories from 192 to 121.
According to the chairman of the MAC, David Metcalf, skilled immigrant workers, no doubt, make a vital contribution to the UK economy, however, due to limiting the UK immigration levels, there is an imminent need to reform the UK immigration system in order to allow the immigrants whose skills in are in high demand in the UK.
The UK Home Office has reiterated on bringing down the UK immigration levels to ‘tens of thousands’ from the 200,000 in the year 2010.
And the temporary UK immigration cap allowed a total of 24,100 foreign workers hailing from non-EU nations to live and work in the UK.
The UK immigration is imposing this restriction on the number of skilled workers in the UK before a permanent annual cap on UK immigration comes into effect from April 2011.
The MAC recommendations will be reviewed by the UK immigration minister Damian Green who stated that the minimum skills levels will be increased for new immigrants wanting to come to the UK under the UK Tier 2 visa system from non-EU nations.
