UK immigration announces on non-EU skilled immigrants

United Kingdom, 28th June: As per the latest announcement by the UK government, the number of non-EU skilled immigrants will be limited to help curb the growing number of immigrants in the UK.

The decision by the UK government is facing a severe criticism from SME and many big companies.

An annual cap on immigration numbers is going to be announced by Theresa May, Britain’s Home Secretary to bring down the number of foreign workers looking to immigrate to the UK.

And it is certain that there will no change in the decision by UK Home Secretary despite the complaints by several leading UK business leaders who think that this decision of the UK government will prove hazardous in the way of recruitment of best staff for their companies.

Several UK ministers including the Schools Secretary, Michael Gove and the Universities minister, David Willetts also agree with the business leaders of the UK that capping UK immigration will be a hurdle for many colleges and companies in luring the best talent.

A temporary cap by UK government for nine-months will come into effect from July 1 onwards for all non-EU skilled immigrants till new rules come into effect from April 2010.

So, as per the new ruling, total number of skilled immigrants hailing from non-EU nations will be fixed at 24,000 under UK’s points-based system.

Meanwhile, the discussions are going on to introduce a permanent cap on immigrants desirous of moving to the UK in the next April likely.

At present, net UK immigration is poised at 176,000 and the UK Prime Minister David Cameron has announced his resolve to bring down UK immigration to tens of thousands from hundreds of thousands.

It may be noted that it was this promise of Cameron that won large number of votes during the UK election.

The latest decision by the UK government to curtail annual UK immigration is going to have effect on immigrants hailing from South Asian nations including India.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not the UK government’s annual limit on UK immigration will have any effect on international students wanting to study in the UK.
