UK English language schools to challenge stricter UK visa rules

United Kingdom, 19th March: Various English language schools in the UK are up in arms against the new tougher UK visa rules introduced by the UK Home Office.

The language schools fear that the strict visa regulations will result in loss of nearly £400 m income annually for the education industry which will be spent in cracking of illegal entrants in the UK. Not just this, it will also result in loss of thousands of jobs in the UK.

The UK language schools body, English UK, has revealed its intentions of knocking the legal door for review of Home Secretary Alan Johnson’s announcement regarding the prevention of those students from entering the UK for pursuing English language courses who only possess beginner’s English.

Till now, pursuing English language courses in the UK has attracted a large number of students from various corners of the world. This has resulted in great number of UK student visas being issued to applicants and ushering in thousands of jobs in the UK for people.

Johnson is justifying the changes introduced in the UK student visa regulations as thoroughly fair and sound, since the changes are a step towards growing concerns about increasing illegal immigration in the UK and the recent foiled attempt to bomb a US bound airliner by a Nigerian national this Christmas.

The amendments in the UK student visa rules will help curb the growing number of immigration scams in the UK, Johnson alleged.

According to an official of the Home Office, UK, the recent changes in the UK student visa rules are in the best interest of the country since these rules will ensure the entry of only genuine students and not those who want to use UK student visa as a token to live and work in the UK.

Nonetheless, English UK, the representative body of 440 schools and colleges in the UK is terming the rule of Alan Johnson as absurd and meaningless. Chief executive of the English UK, Tony Milns, said its quite vague requirement that students need to know English even before they enter UK for studying English.
