UK’s tech visa for attracting IT talent

This will help in luring more IT foreign talent to come to the UK.

UK tech visa in April, 2014—Come April this year and a tech visa will be there for simplifying immigration for IT talent. However, a point to be noted in this regard is that the UK government is not going to introduce any new visa scheme. Rather, it will be changing rules for UK Tier 1(exceptional talent)visa scheme for enabling exceptional foreign talent to come to the UK.

The UK is all set to change the rules for its UK Tier 1 visa stream to help immigration for exceptional talented individuals to the UK.

That’s certainly great news for talented immigrants including IT professionals wanting to come to the UK for working here. Giving details about the move, UK PM David Cameron said the aim is to make London a best place the world over for doing business. A special funding will also be made available to the UK’s tech sector for promoting its growth, he affirmed.

UK Tier 1(Exceptional Talent) visa—This UK visa stream is meant for highly talented foreign individuals wanting to come to the UK for working here. Any individual having exceptional talent in science, arts, engineering or humanities can apply for coming to the UK under the UK Tier 1(Exceptional Talent) visa program.

The UK Tier 1(Exceptional Talent) visa scheme was launched by the UK government in the year 2011. It’s a replacement of the earlier UK Tier 1(General) visa program enabling high-skilled foreigners to come, live and work in the UK.

Each year, the annual intake under the UK Tier 1(Exceptional Talent) visa program has been fixed at 1,000. In addition, the eligibility conditions for UK Tier 1(Exceptional Talent) are quite strict making it difficult for highly talented individuals to fulfill.

Introduction of another DCB—In order to help endorsing the UK Tier 1(Exceptional Talent) visa applications of highly talented programmers, the UK plans introducing a fifth Designated Competent Body(DCB).

So, it will certainly be of great help in endorsing UK Tier 1 visas for highly talented IT professionals and other highly talented individuals. Currently, there are four DCBs namely—The British Academy, the Royal Society, The Royal Academy of Engineering and the Arts Council England for endorsing UK Tier 1 visa applications of highly talented foreigners.
