TOEFL scores approved for Australian Student visas

This has been revealed by DIAC (Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship).

The TOEFL Test (Test of English as a Foreign Language), which happens to be the most widely accepted test of English language, has been given approval by Australian immigration department.

Prior to this announcement, only IELTS (International English Language Testing System) scores were considered valid for English proficiency.

Australia’s yes to TOEFL—The TOEFL test has been selected as among the English test providers and it is being hoped that TOEFL will extend valuable service to international student applicants for studying in Australia, stated Australian minister for immigration and citizenship, Hon. Chris Bowen.

It is being considered as very useful for a large number of foreign students hailing from nations like India, Sri Lanka, China, Vietnam, Nepal, Turkey and the Philippines who wish to study in Australia and need to provide scores of an English language test for getting Australian student visas.

TOEFL accepted by majority of educational institutes in Australia—The fact that TOEFL Test scores will be considered valid by almost all the educational institutes in Australia for students wanting to get admission is great news for international students. Such students can use TOEFL test scores both for getting Australian student visas and for admission purposes, stated Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of ETS Global Division.

TOEFL test enjoys wide recognition--The TOEFL test is recognized as the test of English proficiency for the last 45 years or so throughout the world. As many as nearly 8,000 universities, colleges and agencies in nations like Canada, the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand give recognition to the test scores of TOEFL.

The test is available on 4,500 sites the world over thus proving to be a big boon for aspirants wanting to make application for Australian student visas.

According to Pro Vice-Chancellor (International and Recruitment) at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Jeffrey Smart, this test is recognized as the test of English language proficiency worldwide.

He hoped that all Australian universities, English language providers and VET will join in welcoming the introduction of TOEFL test scores once again.
