Salt Lake City, 22nd March: A large number of people thronged Salt Lake City to participate in the immigration reform rally Sunday.

According to reports, the number of participants was in thousands ranging between 3,000 people to 10,000 people. The police was compelled to divert traffic away as the gathering for the reform was the largest since 2006 in this state.
The participants, the Utahns, including young, children and even families were all dressed up in white t-shirts pressing their demand for immigration reform on compassionate grounds.
The rally for immigration reform was part of a national movement named ‘Dignity March 2010’. The dress code was white, a symbol of justice and peace and participants could be seen carrying placards reading ‘Stop the Hate’ while holding the American national flags high and flowing.
The issue of immigration reform is moral and human, said Diocese Bishop John Wester of Salt Lake City who presided over a prayer held at the rally. The bishop said that the broken immigration system in the nation is affected a large number of people.
Immigration reform will not just give a legal immigration status to nearly thousands of undocumented immigrants who work hard and pay taxes too but who contribute in several ways towards the betterment of the US economy.
Also, it will provide a legal way of US citizenship rights and help keep the families united, Wester added. Undocumented immigrants in the US will be able to live and work in the US as a result of the immigration reform, a participant in the immigration reform rally, Marisa Medina said.
Every year, a large number of undocumented immigrants are deported back to their respective nations. Among them are parents who are compelled to move back while their children have to stay back resulting in families becoming broken.
The aim of the immigration reform is to enable the immigrants get the US citizenship card to live and work in the US.
The immigration reform was a complete success, claimed Tony Yapias with Utahns for Immigration Reform, the group behind the march.
