Sustained rate of immigration beneficial for Australia’s economy

Australia, February 5: A selective skilled migration is in the interest of Australian economy as it will prove beneficial for the overburdened infrastructure and environment of the country.

If Australia proceeds ahead with its plan of skilled migration during the next two decades, it will gain nearly $20 billion in the form of net tax. And the advantage of this immigration will have a positive effect of about $1760m in the last year of the 20-year period.

Although the current Australian population is close to 22 million, but the Australian citizens still enjoy a high quality of life and a higher standard of living than the citizens of many other countries in the world.

This is despite the fact that Australia’s migrant population is nearly 6.9 million. And there is not denying the fact that the skilled immigration has proved to be a big boon for Australia. The reason is that it is with the help of these immigrants in Australia that the nation has got numerous benefits both culturally as well as economically.

So, Australia needs to understand and accept that it must come forward to maintain a sustained skilled immigration process without showing any discrimination in its immigration program.

And if there are any environmental issues or infrastructure obstacles in the country, these can not be attributed to the skilled immigration program or even the growing population of the country. The fact is that Australia has abundant natural resources like water and land which need proper and planned utilization. The need of the hour is to check wastage of any resources and look for ways to help conserve them.

The real problem lies in the improper management of the available resources and public infrastructure facilities in the country. The government needs to make investments in the required urban infrastructure to help receive benefits from the available resources in the country. And the projects involving proper irrigation should be charted out to check the wastage.

Moreover, as Australia is likely to have increased ageing population in the coming times, the requisite skilled immigration program will help in contributing profitably to the country’s economy since majority of jobs will be filled by these skilled migrants in the Australian employment market.
