Student Visa Program to change in US

To make things flexible for international students, the visa program is likely to be changed in US. In the proposed changes in Student Exchange and Visitor Program (SEVP), the spouse and children would get more opportunities to study in US.

The changes proposed in the program
The limit of 10 designated officials for nomination would be lifted so that a migrant student and his family get more option to live and study here in USA.
This proposal has been made only a couple of days back.

All the dependents of international students holding F-1 or M-1 Visas can study at SEVP certified school provided the same is less than full time.

The advantage of the changes
The spouse and children will have better chances of studying and hence staying in USA. The schools willing to offer exchange programs would get more flexibility than before. Now these schools will not have to restrict themselves at a number of 10 only, instead they will have more options.

Designated School Officials (DSOs) promote foreign students to maintain the status under F-1 and M-1 visa and meet other requirements in US.

The reason behind the change
The proposal has been prepared by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) which is largely based on the recommendations made by Department of Homeland Security’s Council of Academic Advisory. The proposal entails a series of commitments so that international students can be lured and attracted towards the country. Amid all this, the people making the proposal have taken special care of the security of the nation.

The proposed changes are submitted to the Federal Register. The proposal welcomes opinion from people till January 21, 2014.

The initiative
This proposal is going to support the economy the developments at scientific front and also the technical enhancement in the country as the best of the international students would be attracted towards USA. This would also favor the expansion of post graduate studies by international students leading to a rise in their number.

Alejandro Mayorkas, Director of USCIS opines that the system of checking this way would be much more beneficial than it ever was.

Similar development for 2014
For international students, the proposal is to reduce the number of assessment levels from 5 to 3. Also, the financial requirements for students would be reducing from 18 months to 12 months. And with these changes the evidential requirements would also be reducing for international students.

International students have always been a great source of boosting economy, science and technology in a country like USA. And every major country can never deny the contribution made by them; therefore, changes are proposed and implemented from time to time so that the population of such students can be kept moderately well.

This is possible only when a considerable number of students arrive here, which in turn would be possible if their families are given adequate benefit and are made to stay and study comfortably in USA.
