Australia, 11th November: Skilled workers coming to Australia on Australian visas are very successful in terms of employment, findings of a latest survey by Australian immigration department reveal.

As per the survey titled ‘Continuous Survey of Australia’s Migrants’ released by the DIAC(Department of Immigration and Citizenship) last week, around 90 percent of skilled workers arriving on employer-sponsored Australia visas were found to be working in skilled job positions.
And around 60 percent of skilled workers were found to be employed in professinal or managerial jobs in Australia.
Around 75 percent of skilled immigrants in the age of 25-44 years, which is regarded to be prime working age. So, such migrants help in keeping the workforce growing and also offset the effects of ageing population of Australia.
The findings also showed that out of the total skilled immigrant workers coming to Australia under the employer sponsored Australian visa program, around 90 percent admitted English to be their first language or rated themselves to be having either good or very good proficiency in English. And 70 percent of immigrants coming under family stream in Australia also admitted the same level of proficiency in English language.
The findings of the survey further revealed that around one-third of Australian family visa holders and two-third of Australian skilled visa holders possessed a university degree.
The overall results of the skilled visa stream were very positive and the rate of unemployment was just 5 percent while the participation rate was 95 percent.
Chris Bowen, Australian immigration minister, while announcing the results of the Australian skilled migration scheme, said the scheme was a huge success.
Mr. Bowen added that the positive results of the program reveal advantages of employer sponsorship for intake of skilled immigrants in Australia. Skilled immigrants coming to Australia under employer sponsored scheme help in filling the skilled vacancies which are otherwise impossible to fill locally.
Hence, such scheme is contributing significantly towards the productivity and economy of the country, asserted Bowen.
The survey makes thorough and accurate analysis of the occupations of skilled immigrants entering Australia through employer-sponsored Australian visas. Latest updated data forms the base of the survey by Australian immigration department.
